With the help of rapid advances in both computer software and computer hardware, not to mention the availability of increasingly sophisticated analytical and statistical methods, optimization using simulation methods has become steadily more powerful and more accessible to managers and supervisors.  When confronted with multiple and often conflicting and/or interacting expectations and demands, these “mustard-cutting” methods can fatten the bottom line.  Enterprises as varied as manufacturing, warehousing, transportation, health care, services (e.g., call centers, banks, hotels, restaurants), and government have achieved these benefits of simulation analyses.
