Featured Project: Secondary Pump Station

Our featured project is the Secondary Pump Station. The increased need for higher-volume fresh water flow to this highly populated area required that an additional fourth pumping system be added to the existing facility. Time constraints and confined-space concerns associated with this "silo shaped design" fresh water pump station made laser scanning and detailed 3D models key contributors to the successful, timely completion of this complex project.

Project highlights and major successes include:

• Reducing overall cost of project to the township by 18%
• Reducing the time from "project planning" to "completed and working 4th pump" by 7 weeks
• Allowing for "staged construction," which minimized downtime and contractor error
• Provided the township with updated "as-built" drawings for future facility-wide use
• Allowing city council to see a virtual future model of how their water facility would work and appear before work had even begun
• Completing water flow and pressure calculations before "start up"
• Training new employees with animations and "fly throughs" provided as added deliverable to the client
• Adapting newer "on-site" contractors as to what to expect upon entrance to this confined-space work environment
• Maintaining model tolerance throughout facility of ±2mm, exceeding the expectations of the clients
• Generating interest in neighboring townships and similar industries, both local and nationwide, to apply our project methods to their fresh and waste water projects.
