Simul8 provides concurrent building of simulation models and their animation using the basic constructs of Source, Sink, Server, Workstation (including setup, processing, and teardown phases), Combiner, Separator, Resource, Vehicle, Worker, and Conveyor. Additionally, complex material-handling systems may be modeled using Nodes, Connectors, and various types of Paths. Simul8 supports user creation and use of customized, reusable libraries of simulation components. One keystroke toggles a running model between two-dimensional and three-dimensional animation.

Simul8 provides excellent ease of learning and use, enabling client industrial engineers to rapidly achieve a high degree of self-sufficiency in model building. The software provides a rich set of event triggers to capture details of complex system logic accurately. Eighteen standard distributions (e.g. beta, lognormal, Weibull) are provided with the software, and the user can readily define customized empirical distributions.
